What We Do

The research team conducts research that focuses on the most significant questions in the after-school field. An example is our study of the link between program quality and effective staff practices in after-school programs, supported by Cornerstones for Kids.

We maintain an extensive multi-year database of information about after-school programs, their participants and staff. Using this data warehouse, we explore issues that influence decision-making at the program level and among local and national policymakers. By consulting and collaborating with the nation's leading scholars on out-of-school time, we're setting a research agenda for the after-school field.

Why We Do It

Research helps to assure that every dollar spent on after-school returns the greatest benefit to kids through effective, strong programs. It demonstrates the benefit of after-school and summer programs and identifies methods for improvement. Our work also aims to advance a consensus on outcomes we should expect for kids who attend after-school.
